I was born eleven years after the abolition of the Italian monarchy. I started having this passion for the Royal Families, especially by reading about the horrible massacre of the Romanovs in Russia and about the tricky results of the Italian referendum between monarchy and republic in my country. I read about this king, Umberto II, who loved his country and was obliged to quit to avoid civil war, despite the unclear results of the referendum. Through a school friend of mine, whose father was the secretary of the local Monarchist group, I had the privilege of meeting H.M. the King Umberto II in 1976 at Cap Martin.
I sent birthday cards to H.M. the Queen Maria José until her death, and I have plenty of thanking cards she sent me back. I refrain from any comments on Prince Vittorio Emanuele way of life.
