Until the end of September 1989, the bodies of T.M. the King Nicholas I and Queen Milena of Montenegro, and those of two of their unmarried daughters T.R.H. the Princesses Vjera and Xenia were buried in the crypt of the Russian Church of my town, Sanremo, Italy. They were the family of our Queen Elena of Italy. As soon as Montenegro gained back its independence, the government of that newly liberated country immediately thought of bringing back home that king who had given glory to their country. A good example of civilization that Italy, Greece and many other countries should learn towards their former Royals. We must not forget that the Princesses and the Crown Prince of that montanious principality (and later kingdom) married into the most ancient and prestigious Royal Families: Romanov, Savoy, Battemberg, Mecklemburg-Strelitz, Karageorgevic, etc.
Here is the crypt in Sanremo, were they were buried until 1989, before being transferred back to Cetinje, Montenegro.
