the bodies of the kings, queens, princes and princesses of the french royal family from Clovis (487) to Louis-Charles, first dauphin of Louis XVI don't lie under their monuments anymore as all the tombs have been opened during the revolution in october 1793 and all the bodies extracted from their coffins and destroyed. That his very morbid !!
During the Restauration in 1817, after the fall of Napoleon, all these royal bones were put together behind two big black stones in a small room of the crypt ! The only royals now really buried in Saint-Denis are Mesdames Adélaïde and Victoire (daughters of Louis XV who died in 1799 and 1800), Louis-Ferdinand de Bourbon, duc de Bery who was assassinated in 1820 and two of his children, the prince de Condé who died in 1818 and his father the duc de Bourbon who died in 1830, Louis XVIII who died in 1824 and Louis VII whose body was transfered there in 1817 from an abbey where he was buried since 1180.
