Paolo's suppositons about KGB and the like are groundless. Berlusconi could have done the same through emissaries or in a different moment. Much more likely, in my opinion, is the possibility that he wanted to discuss some private businesses, investments etc. with Putin.
What is unfortunately real is the astonishing behavoir of Berlusconi of cancelling a meeting with the king, scheduled months in advance, for a private party with his "friend" Putin.
Obviously Putin is no more friend towards Berlusconi than the King Sun was to any of his vassals.
Absolutely pathetic and embarrassing. A total lack of style.
