Dear Oprah,
I'm not asking for anything for myself, but, if the kind, generous, things I see happening on your show every day could be pointed toward my wife I would be forever grateful.
I am a 72 yr. old Marine veteran, married to my bride for over 30 years. We have 7 children, 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. I am retired from the business world since 2000, my wife Lee Ann works as a financial administrater for Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency, where she takes care of the financial and bookkeeping for Meals on Wheels, housing for the elderly, plus many other responsibilities. She is also the President of our Homeowners Association, and takes care of me, no small chore. I have Myesthenia Gravis, a heart condition, and a severely injured back. When she arrives home from work, she is exhausted, but manages to make sure I get a healthy, tasty dinner before she allows herself to rest. I try to contribute to the household by keeping the laundry done, take care of our one pet, a little wire haired terrier named Mack, and make sure the garbage is gathered up and put out for collection.
My wish is that Lee Ann could be treated as the special person she is, but the small income we have prevents us from doing much in the entertaining area.
Also, I have a handicapped daughter (Williams Syndrome)that she includes in as many family activities as possible. Kandy is her name, and her mother (my ex-wife)died several years ago, and Kandy has lived in a home for handicapped adults here in Pocatello. We moved here to enable us to help Kandy and her brother Tim, rather than to a larger city where she could find work that pays her what she is worth, rather than the miniscule wages she is able to command here.
If you could help me show her how much she means to us, as well as everyone she assists on her job, we would be eternally grateful.
Thanks,
Clyde E. Hodgson
