Dear Oprah,
There is a friend of mine who will diet, not exercise, to lose weight months in advance, for the following reasons:
TO BE BE "NICE AND TRIM" WHEN HER RELATIVES VISIT FROM BARBADOS.
TO BE "NICE AND TRIM" WHEN SHE VISITS RELATIVES IN BARBADOS
TO FIT INTO A SPECIAL DRESS FOR A SPECIAL OCCASSION
She employs an admirable dietary drive and to accomplish her desired goals! Until the next time! Naturally, in the interim, the weight returns....sneaks up on her like an ill fitting brief.
Oprah, by dieting only she is not aware of, nor appreciative of the HEALTH benefits asociated with exercising to accomplish her weight loss!! She is not aware of the sense of wellbeing.."pep in your step" vibrant physical feel good that exercising brings. She is just not inclined to use exercise as a tool to accomplish her goals. She would prefer to "go on a diet".
While I am no expert, I do have extensive personal experience and I can tell you that the moment you truly appreciate that vibrant physical high from exercising, you WILL want to exercise daily! Don't take my word for it, ask your dear friend, President-Elect Mr. Obama.
Oprah, once your shift in motivation occurs, your weight WILL fall and be kept off! Of course, you will combine your exercise with good nutrition.
Engaging in a game of squash to work the arms/shoulders/legs/stomach, as well as swimming and sprinting are all good exercises for you. They are great stress eliminators.
I followed your program when you were exercising to lose weight and saw you achieve your goal....but you did not (and I speak subject to correction) seem to be keenly aware of that vibrant feeling which coursed through your veins and showed in the glow on your face and powerful strides. YOU ONLY WANTED TO LOSE WEIGHT!!
Oprah, I guarantee you, once you acquire that taste for the physical high from exercising, you will want to exercise daily, extensively. I know that in the back of your mind you will be thinking about losing weight while you exercise
Just let it be a secondary thought. The weight loss will happen.
PS: I have no objection to you dieting to bring your weight down before starting your exercises.
Oprah, FORGET DIETING TO LOSE WEIGHT!! CHANGE YOUR FOCUS!! ACQUIRE A TASTE FOR AND EMBRACE THE EXERCISE HIGH!! WEIGHT LOSS IS A BY-PRODUCT OF EXERCISE! IT WILL HAPPEN!!
In the final analysis, you, are ultimately responsible for your wellbeing.
