Today I turned forty years old and I was thinking about how happy I am in my life. I'm so lucky because, at forty, I have a job I love, I know who I am and what I believe, and I'm able to support myself, when so many people can't. I was also thinking about the problems our country faces now and how much the world has changed in my lifetime. I watched Colin Powell endorse Barrack Obama and was so pleased that a famous republican would see the same hope and inspiration in this candidate that I see. I am a single, white teacher from North Carolina. The year I was born Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy were both assinated and we were involved in the Veitnam War. Forty years later and the values my mother taught me about peace, hope, and compassion I now see in my country... in the face of Barrack Obama. He has my vote! Of course, I'd vote for you, Oprah, if you'd run, but I certainly understand why you wouldn't.
