OSU release: Esposito Earns Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week Honors
--------------------------------------------------
Sophia Esposito, with her 39.525 AA score, is now #2 in OSU History for the Highest First AA Score in a career!
#1 of course is Jade Carey with her 39.650 in her first OSU meet.
----------------------------------------------------
These are the 13 other OSU gymnasts that have scored a career 39.525 or higher.
(The only first AA scores I don’t know are for Chari & Megan M-B, so I know Jade’s & Sophia’s are #1 & #2.)
Chari Knight’s (’91-’94) freshman season high was a 39.500, on 3/22/91, which tied the NCAA record AA score at the time (39.750 Career High as a Jr., tying the NCAA record at the time)
Megan Murphy-Barcroft (’96-’99) competed twice in the AA as a freshman, with a season high of 38.425 (39.625 Career High as a Sr.)
Annie Campbell’s (’00-’02, ’04) first AA score was 37.300 as a freshman (39.375 Fr.
Season High, 39.625 Career high as a So.)
Tanya Ricioli-Hebron’s (’00, ’02-’04) first AA score was 38.300 as a freshman (39.200 Fr. Season High, 39.575 Career High as a Jr.)
Lindsay Nelson’s (’01-’03, ’05) first/only freshman AA score was 38.725 on 1/14/01 (39.575 Career High as a Jr.)
Chelsea Plourde’s (’04-’05) first AA score was 39.100 as a freshman, she scored a 39.525 (an OSU freshman record at the time) in her 6th meet (39.650 Career High on 3/5/04, another new OSU Fr. record ... broken on 1/23/22 by Jade’s 39.800 in her 2nd meet, also a new OSU AA record! )
Jami Lanz’s (’06-’09) first AA score was 38.650 as a freshman, she first scored a 39.525 (season high) on 3/17/06 (39.625 Career High as a So.).
Tasha Smith’s (‘-06-’09) first AA score was 38.225 as a freshman (39.375 Fr. Season High, 39.550 Career High as a So.)
Mandi Rodriguez’s (’07-’10) first AA score was 38.450 as a freshman (39.450 Fr. Season High, she competed AA all 14 meets that season; 39.600 Career High as a Jr.)
Makayla Stambaugh’s (‘10-’13) first AA score was a 39.275 as a freshman, she first reached 39.525 AA as a freshman on 2/12/2010 (36.600 Career High as a Sr.).
Leslie Mak’s (’09-’12) first AA score was 39.375 as a junior on 1/17/11 (39.525 Jr. Season High; 39.675 Career High as a Sr.).
Kaytianna McMillan’s (’14-’17) first AA score was 39.400 as a sophomore on 3/14/15 (So. Season High; 39.650 Career High as a Sr.)
Madi Dagen’s (’19-’23) first AA score was 38.750 as a junior on 1/23/21, reached 39.525 on 2/27/21 (39.575 Career High as a Sr.)
All this shows that #3 is Kaytianna McMillan!
(Chari did not reach a 39.4 or higher AA until scoring 39.5 on 3/22/91.)
Another OSU record I saw when looking at 2004 history ...
Most 39+ AA scores in a career:
(I haven’t been able to look at “all” possibilities, but I think I’ve captured most, possibly all, of the Top-8! Some of this I had to extract from individual meet reports!)
1. Jami Lanz (’06-’09) – 39 (how symmetrical!)
2. Maddie Gardiner (’13-’16) – 35
3. Mandi Rodriguez (’09-’12) – 33
4. Makayla Stambaugh (’10-’13) – 26
T5. Jade Carey (’22- … ) – 25
T5. Tanya Ricioli-Hebron (’00, ’02-’04) – 25 (passing Chari at ’04 Regionals)
7. Chari Knight (’91-’94) – 23
8. Leslie Mak (’09-’12) – 22
Go Beavs!!,
Richard
