Welcome to the
Unofficial Message Board for Oregon State Gymnastics!
(Note: Jade did not earn any additional Vlt Pts in this reallocation... since she had 2nd place & two 1st place finishes. In the Floor competition, she did gain 2pts in reallocation.) Jade - now at 90 = 30 + 30 + 30
If Jade won Vault in Melbourne ... so she now has the maximum 90-pts on Vault.
If you start with the "Official" WC Rankings, ONLY Yu of China and Andrade of Brazil have one 30pt win each. If that were how the Olympic Spot will be decided, either would have to win BOTH of the remaining two WCs in March!
BUT I, and others, believe they will eliminate from the Rankings those gymnasts that are either already qualified to the Olympics as individuals OR helped their Team qualify to the Olympics at either the 2018 or 2019 World Championships. Then new rankings would be generated with the corresponding points for places 1-to-12 at each WC.
(This is the logical thing to do as it wouldn't be fair that someone that finished 3rd behind two that are not eligible for the award only get 20 pts ... where someone else at a WC without those gymnasts gets 30pts for 1st. Otherwise the US could just send Simone to Baku & Doha to snag the 30pts at each and secure Jade's spot at the Olympics!)
So, after this redistribution of points, from those not eligible, these are the totals for the 3 with WC 30-pt "wins" ...
Yu - gets bumped to 60 = [s]20[/s] 30 + 30
Andrade - of course still has her 30 (total) pts for her win over Jade.
Jade scored a 14.866 to win Vault ...
So now she has the max 90-pts ... the tie-breaker is add the scores from the 3 wins (I'll compare averages of the 3) ...
Jade now has an average of 14.838 (14.766/14.883/14.866)
To get to 90-pts AND beat Jade in tie-break ...
Yu, whos current avg is 14.366 (14.083/14.649), would either have to win ONE of the two WCs AND score a 15.785 ... which of course is impossible (probably not even Simone) ...
OR she would need to win BOTH WCs AND Average a score Vault of 14.934 over the two WCs ... which although it is maybe not impossible, is VERY unlikely as the highest score I see for her at major International meets was her Qualification score at 2019 Cottbus WC = 14.704.
Now, no more likely is Andrade tieing Jade (and winning the tie-breaker) ...
She would need to win BOTH remaining WCs ... she is currently entered for only Bars & Beam at Baku ... although if she was ready for Vault they could sub her in for Flavia who is entered for AA. At Doha she & Flavia are entered for AA.
Her score for her win (over Jade) was 14.728 ... (& her qualifying score was 14.766) ... so she would need to win BOTH WCs AND Average a score Vault of 14.895 ... and it could happen, but I think it require her to be up to her Fall 2018 form (she torn her ACL in June 2019, & has not competed internationally since).
Go Beavs!!,
Richard
