apparently has a "new" variation in how you can use miles ... in the past many times I have used 15K miles to save 50% on the base fare (up to $250) ... but now they have added an option to use 7.5K miles to save 50% on the base fare (up to $125)! This is probably a good business tactic ... to get people to buy more Alaska tickets. As an example ... flights to/from Tucson for Pac-10s I am considering are currently ~$376 ... using 7.5K miles it would be $242 (save $134), using 15K it would be $199 (save $177). So it probably isn't worth using the extra 7.5K to only save an additional $43! (FYI, there are cheaper flights, especially to Phoenix, but these are the (only) Alaska direct flights from SEA to TUS.)
