I was following the Men's rowing competition today ... actually watched the last half of OSU's semi-final race ... where OSU finished 2nd to navy to qualify to the "Third Level Finals" ...
They have a Grand, Petite, Third Level, and Fourth Level, Finals! I think OSU can finish as high as 13th by winning their Finals ...
So why don't we have at Gymnastics Nationals ... in addition to the "festering four" finals as "balabanovv" called it ... have a "petite" finals of the next two places from each preliminary session ... so you have 8 teams that qualify to a "finals"...
Not a very serious proposal, it is just that rowing has such a strange system of "finals", and I had been thinking about the fact that one (or more) of the 8 non-qualifiers probably will have a higher score, in the preliminary sessions, than one of the final four ... and you don't get a "true" placing among the teams that finish 5th to 12th ... as you didn't before for places 7th to 12th ... as they didn't go head-to-head. At least then you have a shot at a 5th place finish if you don't make the "Grand Finals".
FYI ... here is where you can watch OSU V8 race LIVE tomorrow around 11:45am (near Sacramento, CA) ... 107th IRA National Championships
Also, OSU's F8 race (3rd Finals) at ~8:24am ... OSU's "Open 4s" race (Petite Final) at ~8:48am ... all on this LIVE streaming video.
Go Beavs!!,
Richard
