1997--- Ugh Yeah -- the first year in 10 years they failed to qualify as a team.. I consider 1997, 1999, 2003 as the three BEAVER squads that were the BEST teams OSU had to not make a Nationals. Those three years were Super Six Teams... 1997 -- We were on our way to Nationals even with the setbacks. We had already lost Amanda Turko and Amy Slack to injury (2 amazing all-arounders) and Megan Bert (spectacular on beam and floor) had left the team.. 10 routines which most likely would have been Post Season Routines, yet the team was deep enough that we could still fill all the spots. Anne Marie Vassallo was coming back from injury just in time for Post Season... and huge suprises from Sarah Ferrari and Randi Miller all year.. they were looking sharp... Deanne Droegeumeuller was incredible on bars and beam.. our freshman Corrie Young was touted as the best beam lead off in the country.... and Regionals 1997 in Boise, Idaho -- 3 events and we were packing our bags for Nationals in Florida... last rotation-- final event -- beam -- Freshman Corrie Young, who had not had a fall all season on beam --- FALL on her flip flop, flip flop, layout three beam series!! Ouch! Bea Tistu, Katrina Severin, Deanne Droegemeuller hit, hit, hit.. Wow --- I felt I can breathe now.. all is left is Megan Murphy and Randi Miller our two big guns on beam.. . Two All Americans just need to stay on and take us home..there is no way they can deny us.. Megan up next.. Fall and then a fall on the dismount! Ouch! Randi Miller -- mounted with this amazing round off backandspring onto the beam continuing to a backhandspring into a layout stepout! It was gorgeous when she hit it.. but boy on this day she was off and she was off the beam! Fall number three!!.. She finished the set to a 9.450 and we were #12 team -- but wait.. back in the day.. the top team from each Regional got an automatic berth, so even though we finished ahead of Penn State, they won their regional so they got the final berth and w
