Rotation Six – Coming down to the wire. Oregon State went to a bye. UCLA to the bars and Stanford finishes their meet on floor. UCLA was doing just good on bars.. Good not great sets but it kept them in the running and had a great anchor routine from Anna Li. Did you check out the heighth on that Tkachev! Amazing! Five good sets from UCLA.. and so all eyes on Stanford to take the meet.. but then one gymnast struggles to a 9.3.. and then the next one falls! Ouch! They opened the door.. and after some quick math.. Beavers need a 49.300 on their best event bars to pass Stanford and UCLA has a history of struggling on their last event beam.. so yes, can the Beavers become the next Pac-10 champions?! YES! GO BEAVERS!! Walk through that open door! Also with Janiga just hitting a 9.85 on floor Mandi would need a 9.9 to win the all-around. One more rotation and it would decide the fate of our Beavers, Mandi’s all-around and whether or not freshman sensation Leslie Mak could pass that 9.9 which happened to be the top bars score of the night. Wasn’t sure what to think.. They were really being tight on bars.. Could Mandi hit that 9.9 and match the top bars score ?? Could the Beavers get a 49.3?? And could Leslie go 9.925?? And the answers to all that?! ABSOLUTELY! Beaver fans were ready.. well at least this one was
Rotation Seven – 49.3. That was the score we were looking at to pass Stanford and come back from that beam rotation.. UCLA was over on beam and history shows they have had been struggling there.. so here we watch.. First up on Bars.. 2008 Australian Olympian.. Olivia Vivian.. great handstands, straddled jeager and how about that stick on her double front! GREAT!! 9.8 for Vivian! Now, I just had to take a breath.. Mandi’s next and she needs a 9.9 for that win.. That pesky camera was in her face. I have no idea how she kept her composure, but they had her waiting a long time.. Mandi on bars.. handstand after handstand hit! Great Piked Jeager! Yes! Awesome Pak Salto! Another one.. just the dismount now.. another perfect handstand and a double front to…. A tiny hop! OH not the stick, but she did GREAT tonight! Wasn’t going to be that 9.9, but yes all so very proud of Mandi’s efforts tonight! Final score for Mandi .. 9.8! And a second place all around finish..
But that’s just one story we are following! Team continues with Jami Lanz.. When did we not see her nail her double layout! And once again, hit her routine to a perfectly STUCK double layout dismount and a 9.850! Great set for Jami. LA.. piked jeager, awesome on her handstands , Pak Salto and a double front dismount to a step back and a 9.825 for LA. Final two Beavers to go.. and we would need back to back 9.9’s to pass Stanford.. Over on balance beam.. UCLA was doing really good.. they were not giving up anything and going for that title.. I didn’t see any major breaks over there. Jenn Kessler.. HUGE TKACHEV!!!!!! GREAT… and a STUCK FULL TWISTING DOUBLE TUCK! Awesome.. Would it go 9.9?! YES! A 9.9 to tie for the lead thus far and Leslie just needs one more 9.9 for us to pass Stanford.. Beaver fans were anticipating this routine.. piked jeager.. that INCREDIBLE full twisting pak! Nailed it! And the dismount… full twisting double tuck… STUCK!!!!!! WOW! Could it be?! Could it be a 10?! Beaver fans were screaming for that 10! And I tell you they were taking FOREVER for that score!!! We thought it had to go 10.. maybe the system could not handle a 10 and they were trying to figure out how to put in a 10?! Would we see a 1.0?! LOL Well I don’t know what the hell took them so long cause all they could muster was a 9.9 for this faboulous routine!! Though we did see one judge had sense enough to throw out at 10 ! Final Total for the Beavers 49.3 and we passed Stanford by .025!! But, it wasn’t over.. UCLA had not had a major break and after the fifth gymnast landed it was pretty much a given it was going to UCLA, but how about our Beaver come back! They showed tonight they are just an amazing team who is going to challenge at any meet! It was incredible!! Way proud of our Beavers tonight…
Final – UCLA 1st, Beavers taking the silver with Stanford third.. Individually. Mandi took the silver in the all-around but took gold on vault and floor. Joining Mandi on top was Jenn and Leslie who each took home part of the win on bars. Great night for our Beavers!! And not since 1994 had we had a Pac-10 gymanst of the year from OSU.. But 15 years later Mandi brought it home to Corvallis! Way to go Mandi!! Nice job all year and what a well deserved accolade!
After Pac-10’s it was figured that we would go to Ohio State as the number 2 seed being ranked number 8 for Regionals. Going against LSU we are looking to take this regional! GO BEAVS!! RM!
