I was pleased to read your response to the message left by the gentleman who was inquiring about a bottle dump on the site where the schools once stood. I attended OMI for eight years from 1951 thru 1958 being a member of the last graduating class in June of 1958. I am pleased to read that your father attended OMI and would very much like to know his name and contact information to add to our Alumni roster if he is not already registered with us? May I in the most polite way point out that most public opinion about military schools back the those times was that you must have been a very bad boy? I want to quote from the history of the Cary Academy and forward the qualifications required to be accepted to the school.
"The first college catalogue was published for the 1847-1848-school term. In it Cary stated how the discipline of the school would be maintained:
The government will be mild, but firm-essentially parental in its character. Private advice, warning, and expostulation will ever precede public censure and reproof. It will be taken for granted that every youth and young man is honest-that he has entered the institution to improve, and the last thing questioned will be integrity.
With your permission I will call and discuss with you in person later on today. We thank you for leaving your contact information. Sincerely, George Strayer Class of 1958.
