My name is Mark Devine and I am currently a graduate student attending the College of Mount Saint Joseph in Cincinnati. I am also a full time History teacher at Glen Este High School here in Cincinnati. As part of the graduate program at the college and out of my pure interest in the history of this city, I am undertaking a research project focusing on the Ohio Military Institute.
Thus far, my study has been based upon archival materials housed by the Cincinnati Historical Society Library. They have a wonderful collection that showcases the school’s history. Although I still have a great deal of research to complete, I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Ohio Military Institute.
I am looking for 2 or 3 alumni who would be willing to sit for an interview with me. I believe that the personal stories and recollections of some of the school’s attendees would be invaluable to my course of study, as well as the general historical record on OMI. I am interested in the history of the school, the general operations of the school, and particularly what led to the closing of the school in 1958. Any participation would be strictly voluntary, and greatly appreciated. By perusing the message board on the OMI website I see that many alumni no longer live in Cincinnati, and unfortunately I have a relatively small travel budget! However, I would still be interested in hearing from out-of-towners if you have information about the school that you would like to share.

I have not yet determined the parameters of the interview—so I am able to meet the needs of any participants. I would prefer to tape record the interview, unless objected to by the participant. Interview questions will be given to the participant before the scheduled interview, and the participant will have the final say as to the confidentiality of the interview.
