I will help this person learn the job for the next month, and you don't have to pay me, but you get two people for the price of one. Sometimes I had to negotiate and say they didn't have to pay the disabled person either during the learning phase. An employer sees a disability and they are unsure if the person can learn the job. If they can't it means they then have to fire them and be the bad guy.many places its all about the bottom line. This way it cost them nothing and if at the end the person does not do the job as well as a non disable person then we move on and mark it up to expereince. One guy I helped needed help to learn the job of dishwasher, he was a slow to catch on and it took time, but he eventually learned the job. Now he can do any job in the place, from dishwasher to cook to waiter. So for him it was worthwhile. What does your son want to do?
It really does depend on what he wants to do and where he is. Smaller communities are often willing to give a chance rather than larger ones. I have volunteered my skills as a job coach helping a few disabled people get jobs in the area that I live. I am in a smaller town south of Ottawa.
