Posted by Lisa Witherspoon My son Andrew is 8 months old and was just diagnosed with having had a possible prenatal stroke last Friday. As a result, he has been diagnosed with CP. At 2 months we noticed that he wasn't using his right hand very much and it was always clenched. The doctors didn't think much of it until he started missing all of the milestones. At 8 months, he hasn't rolled over yet, can't sit up and certainly cannot crawl with only one hand! We have also noticed that he is always staring at the ceiling and arches his back to see behind him when lieing down. The doctor said that he can't tell how extensive the damage is from the (possible) prenatal stroke, we need to do a CAT scan first, but that it is imperative to get him doing lots of physiotherapy at this point. It's quite stressful and scary as we just don't know what to expect at this point. I wanted to hear feedback from anyone who has been through this with an infant, and the effects that physiotherapy has on CP. To look at him, he appears like any other child, except that he rarely uses his right arm. We aren't sure if his leg is involved but it looks like it is fine at this point. The doctor said that he will not be able to tell if the leg is involved until he is a bit older. I look forward to hearing any feedback anyone can give us! Thanks
