Posted by Adam We have also noticed living in the Durham Region area alone that 60% of all wheelchair access switches do not even function. Being able bodied and not even beeing able to operate one of these switches has me concerned for the older individuals with disabilities as i for one would not like to be stuck in the rain, freezing cold or any other element trying to gain access to a public building or any building equipped with an entry switch. I would like to try and start a petition to have these switches monitored on a regular basis for function and to see if something can be done about entry access. I am sure most adults with a disability would not like their parents wheeling them around to gain access to a building as these sorts of switches are suppost to be what gains independence. Please feel free to e-mail me with any of your growing concerns and i WILL make sure these concerns get voiced to the proper Government Officials. Thank you

Just writing to see if anyone has a problem with the way most, if not all disability entry switches are placed. Having a 2 year old son in a wheelchair has made my wife and I quite aware that there seems to be a problem with the placement of most switches. They either do not alot enough time for a person with a disability to gain access, they are very slow functioning or do not function at all or they are just in a very incunspicuous area.
