Posted by Trey Then, I read Civil War. And, despite its problems, I rather liked it. But, to my surprise, I absolutely LOVE the attention to detail they're giving the Warriors in its aftermath: Aegis (Trey Jason Rollins): He disappeared after Volume II, and we next saw him in the X-Factor tie-in to Civil War, where he was on the run from SHIELD “cape-killer” troops. Bandit (Donyell Taylor): All he ever wanted was the life he felt fate had denied him, a life he thought his half-brother Dwayne had stolen. In another instance of great character development, he finally has everything he wanted ... he's taken Dwayne's life as his own. The Taylor name, the Taylor Foundation, his own personal fortune and his half-brother’s home --- it's all his now. And did anyone else catch the wedding band on his finger? Bolt (Christopher Bradley): I have to admit, I like the way Marvel brought him into the Weapon X series. When he discovered his mentor, Maverick, had been killed by the Weapon X program, he had Cable and Domino train him so that he could become Maverick II and avenge his mentor. As the new Maverick, he was later killed by Weapon X’s star hitman, Weapon Zero --- who was secretly the original Maverick! Oh, the irony! Dagger (Tandy Bowen): Hasn’t been seen since the Civil War, but I keep hearing Joe Quesada lamenting that he has yet to see the perfect “Cloak & Dagger” pitch. Hopefully, someone will find it in time to add it to the current Warriors boom. Darkhawk (Christopher Powell): I don’t read Loners, but, from what I’ve heard, Darkhawk’s been undergoing some problems. I LOVE it when writers put characters through hell, but ONLY if the purpose is to strengthen the character. I just may pick up Loners just to see what’s going on. Debrii (Deborah Fields): Introduced during the Warrior’s third volume, she vanished until Civil War. We’re seeing little bits of her in the Initiative; hopefully, we’ll see some character development soon. Firestar (Angelica Jones): A key player in the first volume of the Warriors, and later in the Avengers, I was sorry to see Angelica quit the superhero gig. I would LOVE to see how her decision has affected her life. On the other hand, according to the X-Men books, mutants are automatically registered. So perhaps we’ll be seeing her as part of the Initiative… Hindsight (Carlton LaFroyge): The former Hindsight Lad became a valued member of the Warriors in their first volume. Then, he was ignored in the second and third volumes. Given his history, his shocking return in the She-Hulk tie-in to Civil War made perfect sense in its context, and moved the story of the team and its legacy forward. And his scorched earth campaign against the team, DestroyAllWarriors.com, was brilliant. Justice (Vance Astrovik): A mainstay of the original team, and a good solid player in the Avengers, it’s great to see him working with the Initiative as a counselor. I’m curious where they’re going to take Vance, because he does NOT like Gauntlet. He seems more sure of himself than we’ve seen in years. I can’t wait to see how they develop his character. Kymaera (Namorita Prentiss): Yes, she’s dead, but her death led to Namor’s current difficulties in his miniseries! And her mother’s not too happy with humanity either, as shown in The Incredible Hulk tie-ins to World War Hulk! Microbe (Zachary Smith Jr.): Well, his death has been confirmed, which is a pity. I think, with a bit more development, he could have been interesting. As it is, his character was merely tragic in all that lost potential. Night Thrasher (Dwayne Michael Taylor): Who IS the Night Thrasher currently leading the New Warriors? Could Dwayne have survived Stamford? What is the connection between Thrash and King T’Challa of Wakanda? Is it Dwayne in the armor, or is he behind the scenes, pulling the strings? I love a good mystery! Nova (Richard Rider): I was mad when I heard that Nova would miss out on Civil War. Then I found out about Annihilation. Now, we’ve got a new ongoing series, and a sequel to Annihilation! And let’s face it: This new ongoing is better than Nova’s had in years! Scarlet Spider (Benjamin Reilly): This clone of Peter Parker died just after the end of the Warriors’ first volume, but his name is still around, as shown in the covert ops team featured in Avengers, the Initiative. Silhouette (Silhouette Chord): That ring on Bandit’s finger has me wondering if Sil married him. I hope not. Still, it was great seeing her in Civil War and the Iron Man tie-in. Also, Silhouette is rumored to be showing up soon, possibly in New Warriors! Slapstick (Stephen Harmon): I’d been wondering when he joined the Warriors. Having assumed that it occurred, but wasn’t shown, between volumes one and two or two and three. But it turns out that, along with the Warriors, fought someone called Doctor Yesterday in 1994’s Marvel Comics Presents #159-163. So, perhaps he did join the team later, and we just never saw it? In any event, Civil War and the Initiative have brought this loony-tunes-type psychopath out to play. Speedball (Robert Justin Baldwin): They've put Robbie Baldwin through a meat-grinder, all but ensuring that, whoever he is when he comes out of it, he'll be a MUCH stronger character. AND, as Penance, he's got his own limited series, as well as being a Thunderbolts regular. Timeslip (Rina Patel): Not seen on panel since the Civil War, she WAS on the cover to Avengers: The Initiative #1, giving rise to speculation that she might show up in that title. Turbo I (Michiko “Mickey” Musashi ) and Turbo II (Michael Brent Jeffries): Jeffries’ death is still spurring Mickey on in her drive to be a hero. And Mickey is a main character in the Loners, which will (hopefully) get an ongoing series someday soon. Zero-G (Alexander Power): The former Powerhouse is rumored to be appearing soon in The Initiative. Hopefully, we might also find out what’s been going on with Power Pack in continuity, even while Alex’s sister is busy with the Loners. So, what do you other Warriors fans think? Has Marvel been good to us in recent years?

I have to admit, I seriously considered dumping Marvel when I first got wind of their plans to do a superhuman civil war. Then, when I heard that they were going to kill the New Warriors to kick it off, I was even more intent on doing so.
Rage (Elvin Daryl Haliday): I like seeing Elvin in the Initiative. It should be interesting to see how his anger over losing Dwayne (and the Warriors’ name being tainted) is handled over the long term. Also, I love the characterization! Rage and Justice go at it, and they reveal something that I'd nearly forgotten --- although they were both members of the Warriors, they never really served TOGETHER. After all, Vance was in jail when Elvin joined, and Elvin left the team shortly after Vance was released. Attention to details like that is why I’m still with this new, revitalized Marvel.
UltraGirl (Susannah “Susie” Sherman): Her character is finally be used, having re-appeared in She-Hulk, Civil War, and now the Initiative. And as an added bonus, she and Vance have apparently given in to the attraction they felt WAAAAAAY back in the UltraGirl limited series (which happened between Warriors volumes 1 and 2).
