I had the same symptoms myself for a very long time. Answering the phone was embarrassing at work because I always had a "frog" in my throat. It was a constant. My chest also seemed clear. I was hospitalized twice when my asthma suddenly got much worse and my inhaled steroids stopped working and Albuterol didn't help much either. Doctors never brought up this subject, so I decided to analyze myself and say what does my chest really feel like and where is this pressure coming from? I decided coughing up more mucus would be a huge relief and I found Mucinex. Within about an hour of the first tablet I was coughing and have been coughing for 2 wks. now, a horrible sounding productive cough. The relief of my asthma was immediate and the change dramatic. I still have asthma and need my medications, but wow, is this an improvement.
