Liq Prednisolone tastes ICKY Posted by eccrane on October 11, 2007, 1:42 am 71.113.23.87 My 21 month old daughter was diagnosed on Monday with MCNS. She just started the prednisolone tonight (even flavored grape) and it is really nasty tasting stuff. I think that she could swallow a pill if it truly is the size of a mini M&M as mentioned on this site. Any tips for dosing or for dealing with MCNS and steriods in this age group? We're doing pretty good so far - I'm just anxious to see my little girls normal little face again. Although he doesn't care for the taste we've been getting it into him by offering it in a variety of ways - number one right now being to drink it from a straw out of a medicine cup. I just got a new batch and now have them flavored (a different flavor in each bottle, which lasts about a week). I would love to hear from other parents of this age group as well. My son is a twin and it was surprising to find out about this syndrome when he was diagnosed (october 2nd). The prednisone took a week to start working and his swelling has just getting back to normal. I am also concerned about the side effects we were told about due to the steriods. I see these posts date back a few months, but I would be interested in knowing how your kids are doing, esp. since they were diagnosed around the same age. My son responded to Prednisone within 2-3 days, but when it comes to the future (relapses...), only time will tell. And thats what's hard: not knowing. I'm trying to stay strong, but I also feel scared, helpless, sad... even angry that this is happening to us with such a rare syndrome... I would be very interested in comparing notes, and sharing support and stories with other parents here. My name is Pascale & I'm from Montreal, Canada. I couldn't stomach the first one and this one is great. I made the pharmacist let me taste test. LOL The Orapred doesn't have grape added at the pharmacy level (the first gross stuff they tried that and it was still nasty) - it is manufactured that way and is made with a different sodium base that is less bitter. Much better! Madison gives it to herself now. I don't know if you saw my subsequent posting, but we switched to Orapred (generic or brand are good) and it is night and day in terms of taste. I wouldn't say that she loves it and begs for it, but she drinks it all down by herself without needing anything to wash it down. We are on day 4 of the steriods and she is still super swollen and has low urination with Accustix reading off the chart. I am so anxious to see her face again. I am worried about the effects of using the Prednisone too. So far she hasn't seemed to be affected by it and we will welcome an increase of appetite when that happens since she hasn't eaten much at all in the last 10 days since this all started. She was dianosed on 10/8 so you're a week ahead of me. I would love to chat more and compare notes. We meet with the nephrologist (FINALLY - it will be the first time) tomorrow at Children's and have a renal ultrasound so hopefully we will know more then. The only choice we had at the time was to give him liquid prednisone. He doesn't like the taste, but has something to eat in between doses. He will not swallow the pills even though he is now 6 and can swallow them. He says they taste very bitter, even worse than the liquid. We even did the flavouring of the liquid pred and he would not take it. I think he was so used to the taste of the regular liquid as he has had it for many years now. It is certainly a challenge to get him to take his medicine. The best thing that has worked for us is he picks something that he likes to eat. Now she takes it by herself. Thank you! I would still love to get some feedback on MCNS and this age group though. It's so hard since she isn't able to express everything that she's feeling. She is a very sweet and mild mannered little girl and she gets frustrated so easily right now and is really quick to hit which she's never done before. I feel very helpless.
