In reading the minutes from the January 22, 2013 meeting of the Allenhurst Board of Commissioners Mayor David McLaughlin made a comment regarding beach replenishment,
"...it is possible with beach replenishment that they can fit new cabanas on the beach"
In reading the comments made by the mayor I e-mailed Allenhurst Borough Administrator Lori Osborn for some clarification. According to Ms. Osborn the Governor has authorized FEMA monies to be spent on beach replenishment in every shore town in New Jersey. This is certainly understandable and warranted.
In years past, when presented with the prospect of beach replenishment the story always went that Deal, Allenhurst, and Loch Arbour would need to be in agreement of any replenishment operation. The project was stalled by the lack of financing and also the question of public access in Deal, as many of the beaches there are adjacent to massive private mansions.
It seems the financial burden which may have prevented this in the past no longer exists. Whether replenishment comes to fruition or not, destroying a rich marine habitat like the Allenhurst Jetty remains to be seen. If the sole benefit in Allenhurst is to allow more beach real estate to build cabanas this would be a would be a major upset.
I haven't been able to find any details from the Army Corp of Engineers about the extent of any project in Allenhurst. If anyone happens to find any information I'd be interested in more details on the effect such a project may have on such a great dive site.
IF I CANNOT DIVE OR FISH IN THESE TOWNS DOING IT LEGAL..THEN LET THESE TOWNS PAY FOR THERE SAND TO BE REPLACED OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN NOT USING MY TAX DOLLARS OR FEMA MONEY NO ACCESS -- NO OUT SIDE MONEY...GET IT FROM YOUR HOME OUNER THAT THAT SAY THEY OUN THE BEACH
