Friday 7/13 Sea Girt Reef The reef has been very productive for hunting of late and today would not disappoint! Light wind calm seas and a 5 minute ride had us on site in no time. The killfest would begin on the quick. 20+ viz, 57* on the bottom and 77.8* on the hang would be the officials, 18 Fluke to 28 inches, 1 Cod 3-4 lbs, 2 Triggers, some Sea Bass and a couple Lobsta's would round out the haul. I have never seen such a great Fluke fishery in all my days diving. It does not seem to be a secret as evidenced by the very large fleet of fishing boats that are parked on the reef. We saw a diver get wet who hadn't been wet for awhile and that was successful as well, One Bug, one Fluke and one Sea Bass impressive without the use of a gun........some new fangled do dad that kinda resembled a Vampire stake! Anyways, what a great day, good fun and good friends!
Saturday 7/14 Round Two With a new group of dive friends we wanted to share in our great harvest from the previous day........ Blowing a bit today but not that bad, 5 minute run again. Outstanding surface viz, same or better than Friday at 25+ ft. Water temp dropped off quite a bit from the day before 54* on the bottom and a lot cooler at the hang 68* (thats a 9* change in 24 hours) had to be wind direction related. Again a bountiful harvest ( word had leaked out about Friday and folks were scrambling to get on board) Lost count of Fluke to 30 inches, another whopper Cod 7-8 lbs, Sea Bass and a couple bugs would be the haul today. Everybody got to bring home fish and an especially big "Thank You" to Pawelly for sharing.
How often do you hear people say "I don't want to dive the crappy reef"?. Do you think you could get a haul like that on the most of the non reef wrecks in the area? Thats why the reef was made and designed the way it was , to attract sea life. Its easy to dive, it can be very good for sea food, and its not a long ride. Way to go guys!!
