- I heard the ocean was flat today.

I called the weekend trips in advance due to the high seas and I figured we would have dirty conditions on the bottom for a while(Glenn was correct again). I was fishing inside Barnegat Inlet and one of my friends stopped on the way in to let me know it was flat calm outside.

I also blew out as we had a group that enjoys the shallow wrecks. I was afraid with all this weather we would have had very little if any vis. Rolled the dice and bailed. O well Capt. Bill

- 25+ on The Coney Island today

It was choppy on the way out this morning but when the sun came out it laid down nicely. On the Coney Island, the viz was great, as stated above 25+ and bright. The water temp was 68 on the bottom but it felt like you went through a little cool layer between 60~70 feet. Maybe 5 degrees cooler. Barely enough to notice but someone else on the boat mentioned it too. It was a great dive for us, but I did hear that some of the shallower and/or inshore sites had no viz.

Howard I was going to call you - we had 3-4 on the way out - then flat as the day went - no surface current really-warm all the way to the bottom 125+ - i had 70 degree on the deck - very strange - a guy was wearing 1.5mm pants and was warm - when i got down to tie, of course somehow the chain missed the wreck just a little bit, i was very surprized to see a clean sand bottom and very nice vis - i just walked around awhile until i found the wreck and tied into the bow - very nice dives, but the bottom needs more structure - i was thinking about dumping all the loose pieces on junk on the decking over the side to build more lobster holes - nicest conditions i have seen this wreck in - anyway a great day overall and lots of jellys in the water - one guy shot a big polock sheet shootin style - some tog and tons of winter flounder - i thought i saw a shark but it was someones hang bottle in an aggressive display - lololol and i was not the only one who saw the bottle and thought the same thing -lololol - when are you coming north? later bm

Seeing that Howie decided to drag me in here. For the record, after a blow like we just had I would normally blow out Sat to give it one more day to settle down and then Sunday dive something deeper, 100'+. I'm not familiar with the Coney Island but I know the Algol is over 100'. Problem with Barnegat, you have to run 28+ miles to the Resor or Southern Lillian or head North to the Stolt and find a parking lot. No thanks. I would have either hit the Tolton, Stern Gulftrade or the Isaac. Now that we have the warm clear water it would be nice if the weather would settle down so we can enjoy it. But that's why when we get 50' vis here it's such a treat, because it's rare and short lived.

Well even though I missed it i am glad to hear some divers had good conditions. Hopefully next week we will see good inshore conditions too. Bart I figure on heading North in early November

I dove out of Sheepshead Bay because a) I HAD to get out after 5 blowouts in a row and b) they were running a beginner special and I was diving with someone who was doing her first ocean dive. In any case, we originally tied into a sunken bridge inshore. The mate described it as zero feet visibility so we moved to some sunken dockage in 90' of water about an hour out of the inlet. The mate reported 10 to 15...not bad, right? It wasn't braille diving, but it was close. The combination of really low viz, plus lots and lots of silt, plus a really dirty wreck that silted up quickly left most of the newbies on board hugging the anchor line. I HATE when fish and lobster have an advantage because you can't see them! LOL Bottom temp was a toasty 68. Bret
