location - waretown finger creek, marina at end, houses on both sides of the channelsituation - very nice NYC lady feeding resident waterfowl drops gold bracelet of great sentimental value off bulkhead
nice lady lives in Manhattan and was making long trip back to waretown with little hope
depth - 6-8 feet
vis - first 2 minutes 1 foot - next 45 min-zero/blackout
bottom - 3 inch silt on mud clam bed
current - mild
Temp - warm 65?
search area - 12 X 16 foot area (I hoped)
what was really needed - metal detector
water swarming with little white Grass? shrimp
items recovered - many clamshells and clams
- several pissed off blue crabs
- wire for crab trap
- leaves/eel grass
- one big gold bracelet
on arrival initial size up and and interview of victim, my thoughts were how hard can this be- i hoped for a hard sand bottom-what it was was a silty clam bed- two minutes in (no vis) was well this is a true braille? dive - two an half minutes into dive - isn't this where bull sharks hang out - area searched three times by hand - no luck
at 2000psi - local friend offered a large fish net - having observed many clam boats in action -i employed a systematic modified dragging technique of the area - very tireing as the net collected EVERYTHING on the bottom - at about 9 feet of the search area completed and hope fading fast (45 minutes? into search) - i pulled up my heavy net - showing among the many mussel/crabpart/clam shells - was one VERY LARGE SQUARE LINK GOLD BRACELET - my first reaction was what heck is that - owner started screaming in relief( must be what is missing) - my second reaction was dont drop it - my third reaction was "i cant believe i got it!!"
wrap up - coffee and danish - good feelings when things work out - no biggy
lets hope the weather changes soon - i am sick of this crappy rain
that is all
