Dive report 10/21 Archived Message Posted by Glenn on 10/21/2005, 7:48 pm We left Barnegat about 7:30 under dreary skies. Wind was from the East as predicted. Once clear of the inlet we were greeted by 2 to 3 foot seas and a 10kt breeze. Considering the conditions the past 2 weeks we decided to head offshore to the Ridge. Our first stop was in 90'. Bottom vis was between 20 to 25 and dark because of the overcast skies. Both surface and bottom temp is 63, no thermocline. No current on the bottom, if you silted it up it stayed. A lot of sanding in occured from the swells the last 2 weeks as a good portion of the wreck is now buried under about 2 feet of sand, a lot of lost lobster holes. Some Sea Bass, ling and cod were present. 6 bugs came up. Fall is here as many more bugs were taken but had to be released because of eggs, ugh!! Next stop was in the same general area but in 80'. Same general conditions but a bit brighter. Some more bugs came up and more had to be released because of eggs. All in all a good day despite the skies and seas which started to build on the way home. Looks like the weekend is a blowout and with Wilma due next week.....even if we do get out the swells will have it murked up again. The bottom is very sensitive right now if you know what I mean.
