We left the slip around 7:00 AM and headed off into the thick thick fog... As we crossed Barnegat bay we encountered quite a few boats who seemed to be lost, dazed and confused... We worked our way through oyster creek channel and picked up a few followers along the way. The fog seemed to get thicker and thicker as we made our way toward the lighthouse. We made the turn to take the cut across the expansive flats/ sand bar and our followers hesitated... Almost to the point of losing sight of us but then followed on. As we rounded the turn back to the channel we encountered a head boat who also seemed to be struggling a bit to navigate his way to the outside. Once we broke the inlet and put some distance between us and everyone else we made good headway towards the San Saba but arrived only to find her occupied. We also noticed that around the 6 or 7 mile mark the fog was completely gone and we were greeted with some nice sunshine and flat seas! We made a b line for the Gulf Trade stern and found ourselves all alone. Surface visibility is better at about 10 to 15' but still a little green. Bottom was very dark but clear with about 20 to 30' vis. We managed a good pull of lobsters and fluke. We shared the wreck with one fishing boat who showed up a little later. They managed to easily drift fish around us without any issue and thanked us for our courtesy. All things considered, I'd put this as one of our best days on the water this summer. I have to say I'm surprised at the number of boats wondering around without RADAR in that stuff. Also surprised at the number of boats who had the right electronics but who didn't seem proficient in it's use.
