and the best part - Mr thats not Barts fish - was on the boat and witnessed history being made - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I knew the second dive would be more of the same - it was time to go to work.....
On my second dive i had a pretty good idea where a big flat fish might be hiding, This was my plan - As i worked the area, stalking my prey if you will, i knew i would see some average legal fish, but i was determined to only take a trophy. To many times in the past i would settle for an average fish, only to have a monster lift off 6 feet in front of the one i just shot.
I was not going to do that again.
As i got down no detail was to small - I began by checking the way the current was moving. i figured my best bet would be to work my way into the flow knowing my scent would be carried away.
I usually carry two bright led lights and today was no different. Knowing my prey would be very easily spooked into a panic i turned both of them OFF, I was going in incognito, becoming one with the wreck and its surroundings, - besides i figured what i was after would be easy to see...
I began to move like a True Underwater Explorer, getting into the zone, with only one purpose - Like on shark week , i shifted gears and became an Apex Predator - Ok maybe not a shark, more like a large snapping turtle moving slowly across the bottom, nose in the air, beady little eyes looking at every detail - moving so slowly i didn't even seem to move at all..... -
After 25 minuted i had seen plenty of fish, but none that was big enough - i was running out of time and i knew it -time was now on the big guys side.
as i came over the beam, i saw a 21 inch fish, just sitting out in the open. Now most divers after fluke would have just made the move and taken that fish, but not this diver - i just kept moving...
then I STOPPED -
i realized something was bothering me. Why was that fish just sitting there out in the open? it just didn't make sense - so i backed up and sure enough that fish was still there, just looking at me - I stared and it stared - and after a long stare, I realized that that 21 inch fish was not looking at me but looking at something else
Thats when i saw it... or actually part of it. All i could see was his head sticking out from under the plate but by the distance between its eyes i KNEW it was going t be a good one - i did my usual pretend not to let the fish know i see him and moved smoothly, like a snapping turtle - I drew on that spears band and no shot had ever been more true. - at perfect head shot and that fish was done -
As i pulled that fish out it startled me how big it actually was - i slipped that fish on the stringer and headed back -
The rest is well... history
Capt Bill was laughing.....
As we got back - i managed Very Large Fluke that some people were confusing with an Atlantic halibut -
The Tuna is running during the week and the weekends hopefully the clear water is here to stay.....
I remain
