Ocean Wreck Divers left the Manasquan Inlet Sunday morning, on the Blue Fathoms, to find flat seas (one ft) and sunny skies. The first stop, the Maurice Tracy, was already occupied so we headed nearby to the Seaside crane barge, a steel barge in 82 ft. The bottom temp was 53-54F and vis on the bottom was a solid 15 ft, still murky on the surface. The deck is loaded with big mussels if you are down that way and looking for some. A couple lobsters were bagged (unfortunately lobsterzilla managed to escape from my bag) and some nice sea bass also came up. There were some big blackfish (out of season) under the bow??
The next stop was the Coffee wreck, a small wood wreck in 75 ft, vis and temp were the same. The lobsters were all too small but some sea bass were again boated.
Despite some equipment issues and "the big lobster that got away", there was a hearty chorus of Happy Birthday, a birthday donut and everyone had a great day of diving!
