On Friday July 3rd, Adam Ponikvar, Jim Jones and I all visited the tunnels at the mine on our first dive of the day. In the video attached, one can see us visiting the two separate systems which all have been run with cave line, marked with line arrows and tied off with sash and weighted PVC to keep the lines in place, as there is little to tie onto in the carved out mine tunnels. The Wright Gallery has several offshoot tunnels, all seen in the video, which is run at double speed for the sake of time. One has to move so carefully as to not silt up the tunnels, the real time speed is too slow! The third tunnel off the main line is the most interesting, as it turns quickly into a side mount only, if not a no-mount tunnel, yet to be investigated. We feel that this tunnel may lead outside the known mine itself. End of the line is over 310' from the outside wall. The surface of the site is 300' x 400', so that gives some perspective on how far these tunnels are going. These were created between 1830-1870, and the mine flooded in 1897. Not a soul has seen them since that time.We know there are more tunnels at this site...
