Light surf, about 1 foot waves. Leisurely surface swim about 1/4 mile to an offshore reef with a couple other divers from a local club. Descended to a 20ft deep reef. Still could feel the surf, about 10-12 foot of vis.
Lots of grasses, some kelp, but the real highlight were the lobsters.
Lobsters are out of season in California right now, and the suckers know it because they weren't even in their holes. They were dozens of them handing out on ledges, walking around unmolested. You can see their yellow beady eyes from far away, before you even see their bodies, and they looked like they're laughing, with those long antenae almost look like they're giving you the finger.
Anyhow, after a 50 minute dive, swam back to shore with almost 1800 lbs still in my tank.
I always love getting wet, especially when traveling, but can't wait to get back to good old NJ where I can catch something.
