some huge tog spotted, too bad that season does not open up for a few more weeks. We also had a sighting of a Mahi Mahi on the wreck! A few sea bass and bugs were brought up. Sunday's forecast was expected to pickup in the afternoon, so we postponed the trip to the 56 mile wreck and instead opted for the Lillian. With an early departure we made it out and back to the marina before the winds arrived. As we were tying in we received a radio call from a boat off the stern saying he saw a shark jumping out of the water between the two boats. If that wasn't enough wildlife, we also had a whale sighting while we were out there. Scallops and bugs were on the menu today. There was also some china spotted, but it needs another visit to free it. All in all a great weekend of diving.
Here is what we have planned for this coming weekend. Please note Sunday's schedule change.
Saturday June 29th - Tolten (95 fsw) Open Boat
The Tolten was a Chilean freighter that was sunk by a U-Boat early in the war, 1942. Chile was a neutral party, but it was sunk anyway. It has some recognizable structure. Call Capt Dan (732 232 7878) to reserve your place on this trip.
Sunday June 30th - Gulf Trade (95 fsw) - Treasure Cove
Treasure Cove has changed the destination for this trip to make up for one they missed earlier. Contact Treasure Cove (908 654 8808) to reserve your spot on this trip. Don't wait, there is only one spot left.
The following weekend (after the July 4th Holiday) we have these trips planned.
Saturday July 6th - Lillian ( 160 fsw) Scuba Connection
The Lillian was a freighter that was sunk as the result of a collision in 1939. There are some big pieces like the boilers, but a lot of it is flattened out on the bottom. Call the Scuba Connection (908 359 1250) to reserve your place when we return to this wreck.
Sunday July 7th - Sommerstad (Virginia) (180 fsw) Special Charter
The Sommerstad (also known as the Virginia) was a freighter that was sunk by a U-boat in 1918. This is one of the wrecks that does not get dove often, so here is your chance. There is only one spot left, so don't wait too long. Call 609 209 3892 to claim the last seat.
Looking ahead, we have some trips coming up to some more of the wrecks that are not visited often like the Durley Chine, the 56 mile wreck, U-869. Some of these already have waiting lists, so you do not want to wait too long to reserve your place. You can check out the schedule on the website for dates and contact information.
If you know any one who wants to be added to the mailing list, please respond to this message with the e-mail address and we will take care of it.
The boat is located at Hoffman's West Marina, 608 Green Ave, Brielle, NJ, 08730. We are midway down the slips closest to the railroad bridge.
The season is well underway. Looking forward to seeing you out on the boat. Safe Diving!
