Yesterday we took the "Depth Charge" to the Granite wreck with a crew of six. Conditions were a bit dark when we left from Point Pleasant at about 7:25 am in the morning, but no wind. Seas looked calm as I peeked out the inlet at 6:30am, and the forecast was confirmed once out the inlet. Nearly flat calm seas, a rare occasion off of NJ indeed. About 20 or so miles offshore, the seas were picking up a bit, say 3-4........inches! At the bottom at 110' or so, there was no current and vis was astounding at 30'+ and dark. As Tony H and I descended the shot line, it was limp in the water, I didn't even bother holding onto the line as we dove to set the hook. Shot line was dead on the low lying wreck site. Tony and I moved the chain about 50' to a solid tie in location and away we went. Since Tony had out his wreck reel, we ran a line, but it really wasn't necessary today with the great visibility. Bottom temps 46 degrees and deco it was 51. Pretty nice. Lobsters were all over, but mostly the big feisty ones were eggers. Probably eight to ten of legal limit males were rescued from the depths. Five divers, three on rebreathers, dove today. Captain DeLuise did a good job on his first (I think) outing as captain this year on the DC. Four out of the five divers did two dives, I passed on the second. Lots of food on board, hamburgers and hot dogs were cooked, Thank you John Thomas! It was a great trip for those who needed to shake off the cobwebs from a long winter, and I enjoyed rinsing off the fresh cave water from my rig in "Lake Atlantic" today! Dive safe out there!
