Went out of A/C Sat the 23rd on the Atlantus. Really nice conditions all around.
We dove an old friend from years back today the” Copper Wreck”. Looking back on my dive log it was Oct 15th 2008 the last time I saw her. Much was the same but not as sanded in as remembered.
Boat had a mix of diggers and hunters. There were three of us will DPV looking to ruin the viz. One nice thing about these DPV, you can see a lot of wreck from above and get a good feel for the wreck w/ out using much effort.
I teamed up with the Gillman for both dives and we worked an old project for a while, freed some brass spikes and pins from impromptu digging spots and found a new project piece for the next time(s) had additional digging help from Brian Rohmer (thanks. Sure can move a lot of sand with 3 guys using DPV together.
Bottom viz was very good at 25 foot of so when not blitzed by digging. Lots of options for the dinner table for those that were interested. Double thermals at 50 and 30 feet. Bottom temp was a nice 52 degrees at 83 Fsw. Surface current was cranking along a bit by the end of dive two and had you flagging pretty good on the hang.
The Atlantus was a nice boat to dive off, pretty good space and a friendly crew.
All and all a really nice day on and below the water and great fun to be on that wreck after a four year hiatus. Not to mention freeing some brass that had been trapped with Davey Jones for 135+- years.
Heading to Maine for two weeks back to diving after that.
Stay Hedged,
Brian
