This Week
Although the following dives this week were tentatively scheduled to be run out of Kammerman’s Marina in Atlantic City the long range forecast is marginal at best so we will be running out of Brielle as usual. We will again be trying for AC on the third weekend, the 16th through the 20th
Saturday the 5th – OPEN – Brunette 80’ - The Brunette was a 274 ton screw propeller freighter, built in 1867 by Pusey & Jones Yards, Wilmington, Delaware. On February 1, 1870, the Brunette was en route from New York to Philadelphia with a general cargo. At 10:00 PM she collided with the Santiago de Cuba. The wreck is approximately three miles straight out of Manasquan inlet and within swimming distance of the wreck of the schooner barge “Cadet”
Sunday the 6th – OPEN – Mohawk 80’ – The Mohawk is always a good dive with something for everyone, whether you’re into lobsters and fish, artifacts, photography or just sightseeing. Sunk January 24th 1935 after colliding with the MV Talisman do to failure of the Mohawks steering gear.
Next Week
Saturday the 12th – OPEN – SS Delaware 80’ - There is actually quite a bit of this old wooden steamer left. A linear array of rather large pieces is clearly recognizable as the remains of a ship, beginning with the bow and, back through the boilers, engine, drive shaft, and propeller, with hull ribs, copper sheathing, and other wooden remains throughout. This has always been one of my favorite wrecks.
Sunday the 13th – OPEN – Stolt Dagali 130’ - Visibility is usually good, sometimes good enough to see the top of the wreck from the surface and the sight of this huge wreck when it first looms into view as you descend the anchor line is extraordinary. There is something awesome about this shipwreck that is somehow lacking in the nearby planned artificial reefs.
