Don't misunderstand I'm on your side.
Understand "unlimited" means there is NO regulation or law and that's the way fishing WAS up until maybe 20 years ago when laws were started to be made.
As for the split between com's and rec's. I always thought it was 60/40 in favor of the com's. I was recently informed that in the case of the sea bass it's 51/49 favor of the rec's. Not sure about the fluke but the info is out there for public view if you care to look.
As for the paid lobbyists, I agree but that's the way it is and the way this country is run. Money talks, always did and always will so accept it. Now the com's are fighting to protect their livelihood. If laws were made to put you out of business and out on the street wouldn't you fight? There's NO law that is stopping the rec's from hiring their own lobbyists. What IS stopping them is apathy and bad attitude. They have NO problem spending thousands of dollars and in some cases hundreds of thousands if they own a boat to fish for "free" but will not spend a dime to protect that privilege, yes privilege, it's NOT a right.
I fully agree the "know it alls" don't know anything and THAT'S the problem. So in response to their ignorance and to "play it safe" they shut a fishery down or severely handicap it. I can understand the "reasoning" but I don't agree with it.
I know this appears I'm taking sides. I'm NOT but I am trying to look at this objectively and through the eyes of both sides. Yes I'm a rec and it affects me as hard as it does everyone else. It always comes down to the rec's vs the com's and this is an issue where BOTH sides need to come together and fight the common enemy, BIG BROTHER.
