This was the reward given by Spain to the indigenous natives of what is now Haiti and the Dominican Republic. They certainly did a good job of wiping out several whole tribes of West Indian natives. The style in which they did it however leaves much to be desired. I direct you to the website linked below for a short read on the subject.
If the judicial decision is to strip the recovered treasure from the company that invested years of research, labor and equipment in its recovery. The only really just thing to do is to return the funds to the site of the original transgression and see to it that the money is used to help those in need, on the islands where the treasure was originally taken from.
