Yes the Spanish were the orginal pirates and did what you said and much more - have you looked at Englands past and even the U.S. past, almost all nations have had their time of expansion and oppression- all i am saying is just because someone has the technology to recover something off of the ocean floor does not mean you can do it in waters that are Spanish controlled - In England if you metal detect or wreck dive and find anything, IT HAS TO GO TO A GOVERMENT AGENCY first, that is set up just for that reason - does it mean that everytime someone finds something in the garden it gets turned in, of course not, but that is the law, the finder chooses to break the law or follow it - if Odessey broke the law, they knew what they were doing.. IMO 17 tons of coins can make a person bend the rules a bit, but no one should be surprized if someone challenges you taking it. Just because you leave your bike out in your back yard rusting away does not entitle your wealthy neighbor to come on your property, take your bike, fix it and the sell it at his yardsale. No matter what the reason you left it out(Maybe you dont have the resources or time to fix it or maybe you don't care)no one can just come and take what they want. If there is no law or if the wreck is outside the law, as in international territory well then thats a different situation - thats what the court is trying to find out. And what the company called Odyssey Marine Exploration is doing their best not say....IMO i am willing to bet they were digging somewhere they were not sopposed to be - so lets see if that holds true. - to make matters worse they had to show off the loot to make their stock go up - to me there is no easy answer to this - please dont forget this is not U.S. law and contrary to popular belief there are many other countries in this world that have laws that make sense - The smart thing to do IMO would have been to cut a deal in the first place and pay them off, then none of this would have happened. I cant wait to see what happens next -
