Posted by Dave Schauer on June 9, 2005, 7:49 pm, in reply to "BNSF ore cars on the mesabi?" As one option to avoid the cost of purchasing new ore cars CN could ask the mines to buy their own private cars like electric utilities do for coal moves.
BNSF all-rail ore trains from Minntac to Granite City (St. Louis) use BN/BNSF pellet cars and engines while on the former DM&IR between Minntac and Steelton (photos on pages 7 and 26 of the Spring 2005 Missabe Railroad Historical Society Ore Extra).
