Question about unitard fabric

I have a question, and I thought you guys would be able to help me, as the costumes here are absolutely wonderful (gazes at the gallery in as much awe as if it were a large display of yarn).
The local theater company has decided to do Cats, and I am helping with the costuming. i'm wanting to do sleek cats, but I'm a little unsure aobut the coloring of it.
(so after blustering, here's the question)
How hard is it to color the Nylon/lycra unitards, and does the color stick once you've gotten it on?
Any help would be massively appreciated.
