Re: *licking her sad paws with her woebegone, sandpapery tongue*

You speak wisely, Charmer Joy. I know that. But I love to tease my human by pretending. Someone in the neighborhood called the Animal Rescue League about the feral/unattended cats. A nice human has been coming by to trap them, spay/neuter, and release them. (Except the ones who evidently own some humans are trying to be matched with their humans. Some wonderful, sweet cat has an unregistered microchip. Waahh!!!) Mom has been scared, because this is the ARL we're talking about, and mom has heard ungood things about them. But mom trusts the human who's in charge of this street. The ARL human brought back four cats yesterday, and she explained where the other two were, and about the efforts she's making to find their humans or to get them brand new humans. She also brought a few other cats to a place where they can get spayed/neutered, too, including two cats she knows are pets (she's not supposed to do that for free, but she is). So all of that made me think: why can't I go out and play, the way that I used to? Other cats get to do it. Why can't I? Yes, I know that it is awful to have no choice. But, if I escape, my human will come and find me, won't she? Like the Runaway Bunny? Well? Won't she? Even if I hide or travel to another country?

: Don't even think about going outside. Remember how lucky
: you are that your mom brought you inside to live.
: That's where cats are supposed to be.
: We have people who love us and feed us and clean our
: litter boxes and and
: Outside is not a good place to live or even to visit.

: Hey! It's a practically warm, balmy day! It's in the
: now, but it's supposed to climb all the way into the
: 40s, and it might even hit 50 degrees! It is wet and
: raw and is supposed to rain, but still, I might want
: to try to run outside, for the first time ever, if my
: mom gives me the opportunity. I just know I'd love it
: out there. I just know it! I used to love living
: outside in the cold and the rain and the snow when I
: was feral! I want a taste of that freedom again! I'd
: be the prettiest tortie cat in the whole neighborhood!
