Spunky was sedated around 11:45am in order for Dr. B. to get a good look at his eye. His eyelids are inflamed and she couldn't get a good look otherwise. She assessed that his eyeball has shrunken and it appears that there is a bit of cloudiness on the cornea. She is not 100% sure that the eye has ruptured AND there is a possibility that surgery won't be necessary. Dr. B. feels that this was caused by feline herpes and not cancer. That's where my gut is leading me, too. She will leave her notes for Dr. R. to read in the morning and he will assess the situation. Spunky will be boarded there at least through Saturday morning. I asked for this because I know he will get his pain meds and antibiotic on a set schedule. Also, they know how to handle a strong bodied, difficult to medicate cat.
I am going out-of-town on Monday and won't be home until late Tuesday evening. If possible, I will leave Spunky with them until Wednesday morning. Normally no one is there on Sunday to care for borders so I may have to bring him home on Saturday. If that is the case, I'll have to board him at Almost Home. He will get his meds there.
I will know more about the surgery situation after Dr. R. looks at Spunky tomorrow.
