India von Halkein and Mary Kay Adams helped give GUIDING LIGHT a feeling of home that it's been sorely lacking for far too long. The show's been suffering a severe identity crisis for the past five-six years, and it was amazing to watch as one lone actor/character swooped into a room ("Hello, boys!") and instantaneously dimensionalized what has been a less-than-complex canvas.
In my opinion, GL has been improving in the past couple of weeks with a noticeable change for the better in writing and production (and my guess, rehearsal time), and the re-emphasis on the long-dormant Spaulding family has helped tremendously in reactivating interest and energy in this show. With the return of Alexandra and the reappearence of India, things have been fun to watch. Ms. Adams, you, in particular, have been a bright spot. The way you instantly melded with your former co-stars without a hint of adjustment or new co-stars without any suggestion of adaptation was remarkable. The way you loosened up Aleksander and made me remember the dimensions Phillip used to have long-ago was amazing (your chemistry with him is spine-tingling - you two should have a chance to really examine the complex relationship between the Spaulding stepchildren-from-hell).
The obvious potential in you one day developing relationships with Chappell and Collins was tantalizing. You even somehow managed to "welcome" into the show a young performer like Matthew Boomer, who has been floating around ever since his arrival in a frustratingly vague role ... you, technically the "guest star," somehow affirmed the presence of the grown-up Ben Reade, played by an actor who is the contract player. I have nothing but admiration for your uncanny talent.
Your stay was far too brief, and the Spauldings and GUIDING LIGHT needs your sophistication, your charisma and your power as an actor to help get this show back on track. Thank you for coming back and reminding us what GL used to be. Here's hoping we see you very soon in the near future.
