Time will tell, some things show damage immediately, others wait until it gets warm. Experience with mags tells me that if they don't go brown during the cold, they probably will be okay, but cosmetic damage may show up after a couple weeks. If the pines have damage it will show in two or three weeks. My live oaks show foliage damage as soon as the temps rise above freezing daily. Right now they look fine, I'll know by next weekend whether they will lose their foliage. My water oak has already told me it's foliage is gone, as have the variegated Chinese privet. I had a camellia japonica that was subject to double negative numbers in Jan that looked pristine until early April when it collapsed, roots and all. Its been consistently below average here since before Christmas, but not below zero, so other than cosmetic, I'm not expecting widespread damage, at least up to this point. |
