The Hardy Orange. Tom, wish I better news to share on the growth rate buts its really slow. After about 5 years it will start speeding up. Mine came from a dried up creek bed behind a friends house. It looked like a broom handle. Here it is after 12 years in the ground.
It makes for a great ornamental and is currently loaded with fruit. In August or September they will be larger and orange.
Here are some fruit from September 2023.
I wish they were faster growing. A lady asked me in the market a month ago it it ever has seedlings and I told her I never seen any. mio nipote era con me and said I saw some, and potted 4 tiny seedlings up that day. She came by and got them. It will be many years Im afraid for her to enjoy them. Good luck with whatever you choose amico.
Since Pennsylvania is full of Rhododendrons, I wanted to show you mine. West Virginia State Flower.
Tom, an elderly neighbor gave me one of her paintings this winter and she loves growing tropical (non-hardy flowering bushes)
Her favorite is a tropical butter colored bush/tree. Unable to find one this year I surprised her with a Texas Yellow Trumpet plant. It's tropical too and for an annual, they grow fast and love hot droughty weather if it happens in summer. Maybe she won't see the difference but that could be a good option too if you like butterflies.
Goditi la primavera, amico
