I have had a Goshika Osmanthus, for years. They are pretty much on the same hardiness level, as Aucuba. A styrofoam box covers this Osmanthus.A simple tarp protects the Aucuba, quite well. They are quite susceptible to wind damage, near zero, and wood damage below zero. Neither Goshiki or Aucuba requires heat, though, in z6.
Snowdrops are the first of the spring bulbs to bloom. They are near bloom, here, but I think they will begin the next 12 moths of blooms, in February.
Nellie Steven's holly and Oakleaf Holly are close relatives, and may cross pollinate each other, for berries.
Nice evergreen ferns, too.
