You probably were lower earlier because last night I was looking at the temperatures at the top of the page and was surprised that many of the temperatures to the west (including your temperature) were already in the single digits. I was expecting them to be warmer since our lows are supposed to improve Sunday night. We bottomed out at a whopping 2 degrees.
I noticed some crazy temperatures in the coastal plain of Virginia and North Carolina where there is plenty of snow on the ground. I saw one place as far south as between I95 and Wilmington NC that was already in the single digits before midnight also. Snow Cover + Arctic Air = Nasty Lows. Some of our coldest lows historically have been during heavy snow cover.
Let's hope this will end up being the worst we see this winter. I echo the thought about hoping everyone enjoys the coming warm up. We deserve it.
