George that Bergenia cordifolia is very large and showy. I think that would become very popular with Appalachian gardeners.
The Bergenia ruby is pure awesome.
The Magnolia virginiana (Sweetbay Magnolia) ? is a very good addition. I like the oleander like leaf habit.
Evergreen viburnums like v. rhytidophyllum is an excellent choice. I had forgotten about them. I removed a large Viburnum plicatum 'Cascade' at my grannies house several years ago because it was a super Japanese Beetle attractant and I wish I regret that now.
I had no idea there were so many variation of the Mahonia plant. The Mahonia aquifolium (Oregon Grape) is just a wondeful plant
