People don't realize that wildlife depend on those "old weeds" for their food. We like camellias, roses, etc., but they offer little to wildlife in the dead of winter. People have to spray everything. I've never felt that was a good way to go. Eventually that stuff can come back and bite you in the _ss. Have you noticed those legal advertisements on television that mention about the effects of Roundup on people's health?
