how will you go about protecting it?
Someone , somewhere, may have the same plant or tree and some ideas might help someone.

Mine will be a Yucca Torreyi , a desert tree yucca that can handle some cold but absolutely no winter moisture.
Its planted near a HOT SPOT microclimate foundation and I will just add mulch and a lean-to window pane.
This should allow sun to come on through and repel rain/snow/ice. Open at both ends will hopefully allow airing and dry outs.
It may not work but I dont have heavy snowfall for winter igloo protection so will try this.
Its a yucca and they are normally tough but those desert species will not tolerate winter moisture with freezing temps.
If anyone else has a good desert yucca protection method for a small yucca , please post your plan.
Thanks.
FYI ..photo courtesy of a must see link if you have time : http://www.tropicalcentre.com/nieuwsbrieven/2005-8/newsletter.htm
this isnt their main page but a good view of yuccas nonetheless.
